The MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center, West Virginia Regional Partner's mission is to increase providers' capacity to provide high-quality HIV/AIDS care within our health care systems. Changes occur rapidly in the HIV/AIDS arena and all interested health care professionals should seek yearly updates to stay current.
Objectives
- Explain general STI epidemiology and urgency of this issue as it relates to maternal health.
- Discuss prevention and transmission for multiple sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.
- Provide updated statistics on sexually transmitted infections nationally and in West Virginia.
- Discuss considerations for testing, treatment, chest/breastfeeding guidelines for those testing positive for certain STIs, and post-partum HIV care.
- Discuss the relationship of HIV, substance use, and mental health.
- Demonstrate skills for communication, de-escalation, and safety considerations.
